Metro Center
The Washington Business Journal is reporting that the Metro’s board of directors will meet toward the end of the month to decide whether to accept a proposal that would allow retail kiosks to operate at select Metro stations.
The retails kiosks would sell a variety of items, including food and beverage, but not tobacco and alcohol. (Interesting that food would be sold considering that Metro prohibits eating and drinking on trains.) The WBJ reports that the kiosks would be set up on mezzanines, sidewalks and Kiss & Ride parking lots, so unlike New York City, the retail would not be on the train platform.
The Metro stations that are being considered for retail kiosks include: Anacostia, Fort Totten, Gallery Place-Chinatown, Metro Center, King Street, Rosslyn, Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, West Falls Church, Branch Avenue, Glenmont, New Carrollton and Shady Grove.
