Many homes in DC benefit from a famous architect’s touch. This Week’s Find is a Cleveland Park four-bedroom that Winthrop Faulkner designed for his own use.

Faulkner, a contemporary architect, built a number of homes in Cleveland Park, and designed not only the Ape House, but also the crocodile pavilion at the National Zoo, in addition to renovating DC’s Federal Reserve Board building.

The architect built This Week’s Find as his personal residence in 1978. With its playroom between the bedrooms, massive living room, cozy family room, and spacious kitchen, the home seems just right for a family with children or teenagers.

Hand painted walls, carefully designed built-ins, rounded pillars and recessed lighting give the home a finished, architectural feel. The master suite is enormous, with a tray ceiling over the bed, an oversized shower with two nozzles, and a separate dressing room that at 200 square feet, approaches the size of some studio apartments in the city. The landscaped backyard is made private with a brick wall.
