The Ultimate Live-Work Space

The term “unique space” might not even do justice to the home featured in this week’s departure from all things DC real estate.
New York Magazine recently profiled the live-work-play space of Jon Sherman, founder of the wall covering company Flavor Paper. Located in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill neighborhood (this writer’s old stomping ground), the four-level building functions as Sherman’s home, his workshop and an entertainment venue when he is in the mood.
The first floor of the building is where Sherman and a band of employees (some of who live with him) produce hand-screened wall coverings for the likes of Lenny Kravitz on long vacuum tables. The upper levels of the building, however, are where the action/magic happens. In addition to a couple large living spaces, there is a DJ booth with 2,000 records, a roof deck with a seating area and large garden, and a bedroom with a levitating bed.
Our favorite aspect of the home, however, is a 24-foot piece of limestone that starts out as a floor and ends up as the counter. More photos below.
