DC-area residents want to live in Old Town Alexandria above all else, according to a survey from Charles Schwab released Tuesday.
The survey, which interviewed subjects across the DC area, asked participants: “If money were no object, where in the Washington, D.C. area would you like to live?” In response, 21 percent replied that Old Town was their ‘hood of choice. Up next were Bethesda (12 percent), Capitol Hill (8 percent) and Chevy Chase (7 percent).
The study also asked participants what was keeping them from living in those desirable neighborhoods. The overwhelming response? Cost. And on that topic, 40 percent said DC’s cost of living had the biggest impact on their ability to make financial decisions.
Here are the results from the neighborhood portion of the survey (you can read it in full here):
Also on the subject of cost, the survey asked participants about how much net worth it takes to be well-off in DC. The answer was a staggering $1.25 million to be “wealthy” in Washington. At a net worth of $270,000, a person is “comfortable,” survey respondents said.
