Last September, Maplewood Senior Living and Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. announced their acquisition of an Embassy Row hotel to expand their luxury senior living brand.
Now, we are getting a better idea of what this conversion will entail.
Inspīr Embassy Row has filed a historic review application to retrofit the eight-story former Fairfax Hotel at Massachusetts Avenue and 21st Street NW (map) into a 174-unit assisted living and memory care facility. Beyer Blinder Belle is the architect and interior designer.

The project will be the second Inspīr-branded development by the team and its first in DC. The existing property was initially built in 1925 as an apartment-hotel; a huge addition was completed in sixty years later. The hotel closed last year.
The unit mix will span from 333 square-foot studios to 1,100 square-foot two-bedrooms, and each floor will have a common area. Most of the parking on one of the garage levels will also be converted into common areas.
UrbanTurf will provide more details about this project as we receive them.
