It's not unusual to hear about church conversions — but how about a church-led castle conversion?
As reported by Capitol Hill Corner, plans are in the works to redevelop the visual landmark Blue Castle at 8th and M Streets SE (map). According to ANC 6B commissioner Kirsten Oldenburg, castle owner National Community Church plans to turn the property into an auditorium and childcare center.

While no timeline has been revealed, the redevelopment will take place in phases. The first phase would deliver an auditorium with at least 900 seats to host Sunday church services and which will also be available for the community to rent during the week.
Later phases would deliver a child development center and various other community amenities. The Blue Castle previously operated as a streetcar barn and as a home to two charter schools. The church has owned the building since 2014.
