A rare residential development is coming to DC: an enclave of 21 elegant condominiums and townhomes on a quiet tree-lined street in the heart of Shaw.
The Collection at R Street is a collaboration between R Street Development and Fred Schnider Investment Group LLC and will incorporate new, ground-up residences with the renovation of a former schoolhouse to offer some of the largest and most unique floorplans in the area.
The schoolhouse—a historic mid-19th century landmark and the former, longtime headquarters of non-profit Africare—serves as the visually striking centerpiece of The Collection and is reworked into twelve oversized residences ranging from 1,200 to 2,300 square feet. The residences range from two bedrooms and two baths to two-level penthouse units with two bedrooms, 2.5 baths and dens.
While most of the schoolhouse condos feature 13-foot ceilings, the penthouse residences also have lofted two-story living spaces with 30-foot ceilings and beautiful, historic windows. Most of the units feature private outdoor space or private rooftop terraces. The building also has a two-story lobby with a dramatic interior bridge that crosses the lobby for unit access, as well as a bike room.
Surrounding the renovated schoolhouse are a variety of brand-new multi-level condos and townhomes. The condos live like townhomes in every way, with four levels, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and dens. The condos feature private outdoor space, including decks, hardscape terraces and/or two-tiered rooftops, while select residences also feature a rare amenity for new urban developments: oversized backyards.
Additionally, The Collection offers one single-family rowhome measuring at 3,500 square feet. The home boasts four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths spread over four levels.
The Collection at R Street is located on R Street NW (map), between 5th Street and New Jersey Avenue, in the heart of Shaw while close to Bloomingdale, U Street and Logan Circle. Neighborhood spots include Dacha Beer Garden, Compass Coffee, BKK Cookshop, Zepplin, Big Bear Café, Right Proper Brewing Company and many more. The property is also located just a few blocks from the Shaw-Howard University Metro station and Giant Food.
Sales for The Collection at R Street will begin in March and pricing ranges from $800,000 to $2M. Digital tours are available at the property’s sales office (located at The Mark at The Wonderbread Factory). Hardhat tours will also begin in the coming months.
