Yesterday, Airbnb announced the Unique Airbnb Fund, a fund that will award $1 million to the ten most unconventional living space designs submitted to the company. A panel of experts will judge the submissions, including a representative from architecture firm MVRDV and actor Billy Porter.
The awarded funds are intended to enable the concept to be formally designed and built. Selection criteria includes energy efficiency and sustainability, social good, and feasibility within a $100,000 budget.

The announcement about the fund notes that searches on Airbnb increased 70% year-over-year for unique spaces to stay. "Some of the most booked listings of all time include domes, RVs, treehouses, and yurts across the world," the announcement states.
Applicants have until April 15th to submit their concepts; the winners will be selected by May 15th.
