Plans for a Triangular Park in DC's Kingman Park
A neighborhood group is looking to enhance a park in DC's Kingman Park neighborhood.
Friends of Kingman Park (FKP) is seeking Historic Preservation Review Board approval to install benches and perforated metal markers in the triangular park at 21st and D Streets and Oklahoma Avenue NE (map). The park is owned by the District Department of Transportation.

FKP is also commissioning sculptural installations from Curry Hackett of Wayside Studio and Patrick McDonough. The perforated metal marker will evoke a rowhouse exterior door/gateway and will enable residents to permanently emboss up to 750 tags with their handwriting that be attached to the markers.
"Affixed to these perforations will be exterior-grade aluminum tags that will feature handwritten memories, anecdotes, wishes and envisionings from Kingman Park residents young and old, new and long tenured," the application explains.
The organizers will apply for a Public Art Building Communities Grant from the DC Commission on Art and the Humanities; the proposal will also need approval from the city's Public Space Committee.
