If you find yourself getting fed up with the price of one-bedroom condos here in the DC area, just take a look at what condos are selling for up in New York City. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that singer John Legend recently purchased a 1,300 square-foot one-bedroom unit in Manhattan’s East Village listed for $2.3 million.

According to the Journal, the floor-through apartment is in a new glass-and-steel residential tower and has 14-foot-ceilings and 360-degree views. The building, which was finished this year, also has a doorman, an outdoor pool and indoor parking. The final price was not disclosed, but if recent sales in the building are any indication (a similar unit sold for $2.59 million last month), Legend paid close to $1,500 a square foot.
Like the U Street Corridor, the East Village has experienced a renaissance over the last 15 years, and is now one of the preferred places to live for young professionals. This fits with Legend’s fan base that is largely that same demographic.
