Late this summer, UrbanTurf previewed the proposal to redevelop the former site of Town Danceboutique in Shaw. Now, the project is breaking ground.
Yesterday, Jefferson Apartment Group announced that construction had begun at 2009 8th Street NW (map). The by-right development will deliver a 70 foot-tall building with penthouse, containing 132 apartments above 16,392 square feet of commercial space.

The unit mix at the Hickok Cole-designed building will include studios and one- and two-bedrooms, as well as inclusionary zoning units. The eight penthouse units will each have ten-foot ceilings and 300 square-foot terraces; four apartments on the third floor will also have private terraces.
Amenities will include a fitness center and roof deck; there will also be below-grade parking with 48 residential and nine retail parking spaces along with 46 bicycle spaces. Stars Investment Management is the co-developer.
