DC’s Office of Tax and Revenue mailed out 2010 tax assessment notices to property owners at the beginning of March, and a number of owners took issue with the low assessment of their home. (Read our post about it here.) If you feel the 2010 assessment does not reflect the market value of your property, you have until Wednesday to start the appeal process.
(The vast majority of the District’s neighborhoods saw a drop in value. The average change for residential properties in fiscal 2010 is -3.67 percent. In fiscal 2009, there was a 2.3 percent increase.)
If you are not sure if you should appeal or just have questions, DC Councilmember Phil Mendelson is hosting a town hall meeting about the city’s tax assessments tomorrow night at 12th and U Streets. Representatives from the Office of Tax and Revenue will be on hand to answer questions.
