DC Mayor’s Office and the Knutson Companies Break Ground at St. Elizabeths East

Excitement is building in St. Elizabeth’s East, where ongoing redevelopment efforts are underway.
The latest initiative is District Towns at St. Elizabeths East, a new community of 88 garage townhomes steps from Congress Heights Metro. Together with the DC Mayor’s office, the Knutson Companies recently broke ground on this new project.
Set to open for sales later this spring, District Towns at St. Elizabeths East represents the first opportunity to build wealth through homeownership on the St. Elizabeths East campus, and advances the mission of the DC Mayor’s office to provide accessible new homes to local residents. A Homebuyers Club will be available to provide resources to first-time homebuyers and 27 of the townhomes will be affordable residences.
Two impressive garage townhome designs were created specifically for this new development. Stately brick exteriors offer a refined nod to elements of traditional architecture and act as a perfect accent to the tree-lined streets of St. Elizabeths East.
Inside, the floorplans incorporate thoughtfully placed features and finishes that support a modern lifestyle. This includes up to four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and a two-car garage. The homes also offer an optional private outdoor living space on the top floor — a roof terrace ideal for grilling and recreation.
“We’ve been working closely with the DC Mayor’s office to ensure that we’re not only meeting the needs of home shoppers, but also seamlessly joining the existing community and supporting local initiatives,” says Don Knutson, president of the Knutson Companies. “We couldn’t be more honored to be a part of this journey.”
The new townhomes starting from the high $400,000s and upper $500,000s are one of several elements planned for the overall redevelopment of St. Elizabeths East. Upcoming projects include the construction of over 250,000 square feet of office and retail space. This will supplement the wide open green spaces throughout the community.
A number of destinations are already available to residents as well. Most notably, St. Elizabeths East is the home of the Washington Mystics, with the Entertainment and Sports Arena within walking distance. R.I.S.E. Community Center, Gateway Park and Pavilion, and access to commuter and public transportation routes are also nearby.
