While office-to-residential conversions may not be feasible for city subsidies, another one is entering the pipeline in DC.
AFA Studios has applied for historic preservation concept review to convert the narrow, two-story office building at 710 E Street SE (map) into seven apartments. The conversion would include a three-story rear addition with cellar.
The completed building would have two one-bedroom units on the cellar floor, a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom with terrace on the first floor, a one- and a two-bedroom on the second floor, and a two-bedroom on the third floor.
The site is zoned for mixed-use and is in the Capitol Hill Historic District. The Historic Preservation Review Board could consider the project this month.
