7-Eleven is trying out a little something different in DC.
A new store slated for 504 K Street NW (map) would have an unenclosed outdoor patio. The proposal was presented at last month's meeting of the ANC 6E.
ANC 6E commissioner Alex Marriott informed constituents this weekend that he would file a letter with the District Department of Transportation's (DDOT) Public Space Committee objecting to the application based on how much of the sidewalk the patio would occupy. Marriott's email implies that many neighborhood residents who object to the plans do so because of the stigma associated with 7-Eleven as an establishment.

"Despite the fact that some of the comments I received were not reflective of the spirit of the neighborhood, the vast majority were respectful and clearly articulated your concern," Marriott writes. "I understand this may not have been your ideal store to come into the neighborhood."
Marriott also warned that the 7-Eleven having some outdoor space is likely a foregone conclusion. "Please know that while I did file an objection, 7-Eleven will likely receive some amount of space for some tables and chairs."
Correction: The article previously misidentified the commissioner; it is Alex Marriott, not Alex Padro.
