What $550,000 Buys You in the DC Area
In What X Buys You this week, UrbanTurf takes a look at properties on the market in the $539,000 to $549,000 range to give readers an idea of what type of homes are available in this price point in the DC area.
Contemporary Two-Bedroom Near the Convention Center
This condo is located in Quincy Court, a 2006-built project on 10th Street that has all the calling cards of modern design, with a green roof, open floor plans, and walls of windows. A concierge, storage, parking and a few other extras make for high condo fees, but this two-bedroom caught our eye because of the master suite, which has a walk-in closet and a nice bathroom with a huge tub, and the balcony.

Four-Bedroom Rambler in Silver Spring
This Silver Spring home rambles over an 8,000 square-foot lot with four bedrooms, a large living room and a super-sized family room. Built in 1945, the house has traditional moldings and fixtures, but the bamboo flooring adds a modern touch. The finished basement is now being used as a family room and exercise area, but could be an additional bedroom. Our favorite part of the home is the screened-in porch, which looks onto the sprawling lot.

Del Ray Townhouse With Finished Basement
Like the property above, this townhouse in Del Ray has a finished basement and a sun room that add a lot to the livability. Built in 1939, the home was renovated in a breezy, modern fashion, with dark hardwood floors and a floating staircase going down to the basement. The bedrooms are on the small size (the second bedroom is currently a nursery and would be a good office), but the sun room opens up to the back patio and a fairly deep yard.
