Preview: Cavanaugh's Workshop in Dupont Circle
Exterior of Cavanaugh’s Workshop.
The former Dupont Circle studio space of John Cavanaugh, the 20th-century scupltor, will be taking on a new life as of late January. 1801-1803 Swann Street NW, that for years was known as Swann’s Way where Cavanaugh had studio and reception space (and eventually served as the address for his foundation), is being turned into the neighborhood’s newest residential project.
The late 19th-century Victorian buildings, still adorned by Cavanaugh’s relief sculptures based on the theme of Marcel Proust’s Remembrance of Things Past,, will house seven new condo units that have been rehabilitated by DC-based Fairmont Developers. Fairmont Developers focuses on energy-efficient building practices, and the new project has a number of green features, including bamboo flooring, high-efficiency insulation and Energy Star appliances (that now seem to be the standard in new construction and conversions across the city).
The terrace-level units each have two entrances and one comes with a private courtyard. The five remaining units are all two-bedroom condos with fairly open floorplans, entrances on Swann Street and some units have vaulted ceilings. The units range in size from approximately 715 to 960 square feet, and condo fees are anywhere from $200 to $259 a month. For an example floorplan, click here. The units of Cavanaugh’s Workshop just went on the market this week. We will add photos and additional details as they become available. More information below.
