PN Hoffman Files Plans For 60-Unit Project at Adams Morgan's Central Intersection

PN Hoffman has filed plans for a 60-unit residential building at Adams Morgan’s central intersection, following a lengthy back and forth with neighbors and community members who opposed the development.
The development on the boards for 1800 Columbia Road NW (map) would include approximately 8,375 square feet of ground floor retail and an underground garage with approximately 33 parking spaces, in addition to 60 apartments of varying size. The proposed 70-foot tall building would be located on the site of the Sun Trust plaza at the southwest corner of 18th Street and Columbia Road NW.

Like new multi-unit developments that are proposed throughout the city, PN Hoffman went before the local ANC to garner support for the new project. However, in a series of meetings over the last few months, many in the neighborhood and on ANC 1C took issue with the building’s height, design and size, as well as the fact that it would be constructed on a plaza that has long been used by the public.
In response to these concerns and criticisms, the developer and project architect Eric Colbert revamped the design and scope of the development several times. The plans filed with the Board of Zoning Adjustment this week outline the latest iteration for the development.
