First Look: The Barber of Hell's Bottom
Inside The Barber of Hell’s Bottom
On Monday night, UrbanTurf got a sneak peek at the newest and perhaps most anticipated barber shop to open in DC in recent memory.
The Barber of Hell’s Bottom, which opens its doors at 818 Rhode Island Avenue NW (map) for the first time at 10am on Tuesday, comes to Rhode Island Avenue courtesy of Kelly Gorsuch, the founder of Immortal Beloved on Church Street. The shop’s head barber (and friend of UrbanTurf) is Mike Charland.
The 9-chair barber shop will offer haircuts and straight razor shaves. It took its name from what the area around the shop used to be called back in the 19th century, when it had a much more notorious reputation.
All the woodwork in the shop was done by Caleb Woodard and the handmade razor handles for sale at the front desk come from Imperium Woodcraft.
The Barber of Hell’s Bottom is taking appointments now, and will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 6pm. More photos below.
