What $730,000 Buys You in the DC Area

by Shilpi Paul

In What X Buys You this week, UrbanTurf takes a look at properties on the market in the $725,000 to $740,000 range to give readers an idea of what type of homes are available in this price point in the DC area.

Alexandria Farm House on a Corner Lot

Located close to the Braddock Road Metro station, this three-bedroom farm house evokes the type of homes that Norman Rockwell used to paint. However, along with its old fashioned charm (white picket fence and wide front porch), it has been updated, with a white kitchen, new bathrooms, and a lower level currently being used as a playroom/family room. The ceilings on the second floor are angled down to create cozier spaces.

Revamped in 16th Street Heights

Located on the eastern edge of DC’s sleeper neighborhood, this stately four-bedroom row house was revamped in the latter half of 2012. The first floor is now quite open, with a raised ceiling and a kitchen that opens to the living area. There are a couple odd layout choices, like a fireplace that seems a bit too large for one of the bedrooms, but features like heated ceramic floors in the master bathroom make up for those.

  • Full Listing: 5014 Arkansas Ave NW (map)
  • Price: $725,000
  • Bedrooms: Four
  • Bathrooms: Three
  • Year Built: 1923
  • Listing Agent: Timothy Woody-Lepre, Stages Premier

Split Level With Like-New Hardwood Floors

The sellers of this Colonial Village split-level home have made several improvements over the years; the most notable are the like-new hardwood floors, which the owners found under old carpeting. UrbanTurf also liked the two closets in the master bedroom; the other main floor bedrooms are on the small side. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room look out onto Rock Creek Park.

  • Full Listing: 1606 Portal Drive NW (map)
  • Price: $739,000
  • Bedrooms: Four
  • Bathrooms: Three
  • Year Built: 1963
  • Listing Agent: Rina Kunk, McEnearney Associates
