New Site Offers Instant Price Estimates on Home Improvement Projects
A new site launched today offers users the ability to instantly get local cost estimates for home improvement projects.
Pro.com, founded by former Amazon executives, hopes to provide estimates for everything from painting the walls to renovating the whole kitchen. Right now, the service is available in Seattle, but other cities are expected to be added soon.
“When a customer is ready to schedule, Pro.com gives the option to book instantly online in select cities without having to make a phone call,” according to a press release. “The site recommends home service professionals based on over a dozen specific attributes including proximity to customer, expertise, and ratings.”
In theory, this could be a great service, assuming the estimates provided are accurate. When Zillow launched, one of its main features was the Zestimate, a proprietary algorithm designed to estimate the current value of a home. The Zestimate was widely criticized for its inaccuracy. In order to succeed, Pro.com will need to provide estimates that won’t incur the same type of criticism.
