Design Change for Meridian Hill Baptist Residential Project
New design for residential project at Meridian Hill Baptist Church
DCmud is reporting that revised designs were recently released for the Meridian Hill Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant (map), which will be converted into a 55-60 unit residential project by Bozzuto Homes. The church has been empty since a massive fire ravaged it in 2008.
The main change in the new design is that the skin of the new residential structure adjacent to the church will be stone, rather than glass.
From DCmud:
“A light shade of stone is now being used to blend the front of the skinny side addition with the lighter limestone facade of the church, as opposed to the glass initially used to differentiate the addition.”
Previous rendering.
The design change is in response to requests made by the Historic Preservation Board this past September. (At an ANC1D meeting this past summer, project architect Martinez + Johnson Architecture confirmed that the church exterior would be preserved.)
Sales on the new project, which will have one and two-bedroom units ranging in price from the upper-$200,000 to low-$400,000 range, were expected to start next summer, but DCmud notes that this latest development will likely push that timeline back.
