Best New Listings: Sinkhole Street, 1850s House, and a One-Way Street
In this week’s edition of Best New Listings, UrbanTurf looks at a Kalorama condo on a newly-famous street, an 1850s Eastern Market home with a giant terrace, and a Dupont Circle rowhouse on a quiet, one-way block.
Condo on the Corner of DC’s Newly Famous Street
Kalorama’s Biltmore Street became locally famous this week when a small sinkhole opened up on the sidewalk. Besides the apocalyptic chasm, the street is known for its luxurious row houses and condo conversions. This is one such condo, which takes up one floor of a stately Victorian. The rounded corner of the building creates a round living room area with plenty of windows. We also liked the fireplace in the bedroom.

Detached 1850s Home Near Eastern Market
What this Eastern Market home lacks in size, it makes up for in history and outdoor space; the home was built in 1850, and the terrace appears to be larger than the footprint of the home. With original flooring and a hearth from the 19th century, this property underwent a renovation in 2005 that opened up the first floor just enough to lose the claustrophobic feeling. The hearth still separates the living room from the dining room, but there is open space on either side. Our favorite spot is the side terrace, which is surrounded by brick and covered with a shade-offering pergola.

- Bedrooms: Two

Dupont Circle Renovation on a Quiet Street
One-way streets in bustling neighborhoods offer the pros of living in an vibrant area, without the noise and commotion that usually come with the deal. This renovated four-bedroom listing is on Corcoran Street, a one-way, six-block street just north of Dupont Circle and close to all the neighborhood’s desired amenities. The home’s nice features, include a modern kitchen with more cabinets than the average rowhouse, a porch off the top floor, and a cute basement unit with a kitchen.
