Paying a Premium: The Highest Prices Per Square Foot in Maryland
The castle on the market in 20815.
Last week, UrbanTurf looked at the zip codes in DC proper with the highest premium for square footage in 2013. This week, we look at Maryland, where zips in Montgomery County, to nobody’s surprise, command the highest prices per square foot. (Listed square footage in Maryland refers to the above-grade living area in a home.)
Note: Only a sampling of neighborhoods are included for each zip code.
The five zip codes above posted the highest average price per square foot sales in Maryland last year. The table also shows the number of sales in each zip code and the average list price of homes. The final column looks at whether home prices in the neighborhood went up or down since 2012.
The pricy neighborhoods listed here should come as no surprise: all are in Montgomery County, and the Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase area, at $490 per square foot, led the way. It is important to note that for this article we were provided with average price per square foot, rather than median, so the figures could include outliers on either end of the market that sway the average.
Stay tuned for price per square foot analysis for Virginia next week.
RealEstate Business Intelligence recently provided UrbanTurf with the average price per square foot statistics for DC area zip codes in 2013.
