NoVa Best New Listings: Waycroft and Fairfax County
In this week’s NoVa Best New Listings, we take a look at a one-story Fairfax home with a smart closet office, and an updated four-bedroom Cape Cod with some interesting design elements.
One-Level Fairfax Home with Closet Office
The upside of one-level living is, of course, not having to hoof it up and down flights of stairs. But it can be a challenge to stay organized when there’s not a second story to serve as a place to easily stash a bunch of clutter. This ranch-style house in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County has a couple of features that solve this problem, the cutest of which is a bedroom closet that has been converted into a small, contained office. Instead of dedicating an entire bedroom to work space, or putting a desk in the middle of a living or dining room, a computer and several shelves are neatly tucked away and can even be further hidden from view with a curtain or screen.

Traditional Cape Cod with Non-Traditional Design Elements
This four-bedroom home in the Waycroft section of Arlington took its architectural/design cues from old fairy tales and recent issues of Dwell. The home’s exterior is all cozy brick, gables, and big shutters—like a cottage straight out of the Brothers Grimm. But the old-fashioned charm doesn’t extend to the home’s interior, where there are a ton of modern, well-thought-out elements, including a recessed sleeping nook in a child’s bedroom, a cedar-lined closet, and built-in storage throughout.
