Best (And Most Ridiculous) Real Estate Rumor of 2011: R. Kelly Apartment Hunting on Capitol Hill
Usually, DC housing gossip involves politicians, lobbyists, and the occasional scandal-ridden financial bigwig, so we had high hopes when we caught the following message on Facebook in June:
The prospect of “hip hopera” artist R. Kelly coming to our fair city had us all atwitter as the rumor spread through the local and national blogosphere. Did he need a place to stay during his concert tour through the DMV? Or was he sticking around, perhaps aiming to make a run for an Illinois seat in the House of Representatives?
The rumor made it all the way to R. Kelly’s representative, who squashed it quickly. The message, which certainly seemed a little unusual, turned out to be a posted on a fake Facebook page made up for the pop star.
Since then, however, UrbanTurf has tried to stay abreast of R. Kelly’s real estate moves. Earlier this week, he listed his $1.595 million home in the Chicago suburbs as a very expensive short sale. So, he may be looking for a rental somewhere soon after all…just probably not in DC.
