Major H Street Development Clears Big Hurdle
DCmud reports that redevelopment for a two-block strip mall in the H Street Corridor has been approved by the local advisory neighborhood commission (ANC). ANC approval is a key step toward realization of the project, which is now expected to get a zoning hearing with the city in the coming months.

Named H Street Connection, the plan calls for 346 to 423 apartments and over 50,000 square feet of retail to span the two blocks along H Street between 8th and 10th Streets NE (map). It is a big deal for the neighborhood not only due to the large scale of the project, but also because it portends further development along H Street east of 10th Street. To date, much of the resurgence of the H Street Corridor has been concentrated along five blocks of the street’s west end.
As positive a development as this is for H Street, 2012 is the earliest a groundbreaking would occur. Still, it’s yet another reason for neighborhood residents to be excited.
