160-Room Hotel Approved For Courthouse Metro
On Saturday, the Arlington County Board approved plans for a new hotel about 500 feet from the Courthouse Metro Station at 2401-2407 Wilson Blvd (map), between Courthouse and Lyon Village.
The hotel will rise eight stories and have 161 rooms. The Board’s approval of the 93,000-square foot building plan required a zoning change and an amendment to the area’s land use. 2401 Wilson, LLC, the developer of the project, is working with Gordon & Greenberg Architects on the building.
The developer agreed to a number of community benefits near the hotel. Those include adding a bus station on Wilson Boulevard, improving the streetscape in front of the hotel, getting rid of curb cuts, building the structure to meet LEED Gold standards, and contributing about $1.5 million to help finish an elevator for the Courthouse Metro station, currently scheduled for completion by 2020. They’ll also kick in about $600,000 to an affordable housing fund.
The Board added in a few other details, one of them perhaps reflective of DC’s snowy winter: “Add language,” it advised, “requiring snow removal from all ramps and curb cuts.”
