Crystal House Expansion

Nonprofit Washington Housing Conservancy (co-founded by JBG Smith) acquired the 828-unit Crystal House apartments in 2020 to preserve the existing affordable housing on the site. In 2021, Amazon acquired the development rights for the site and donated them to the county. Now, True Ground Housing Partners is moving ahead with the first of seven new buildings that will be constructed on the site over the next five years. Construction on Crystal House 3, a new 430-unit all-affordable building, is expected to start this year.
