The Best Open Houses in the DC Area

by Mark Wellborn

This weekend’s best open houses include a two-bedroom condo in the Penn Quarter that could drastically shorten your commute, a “Zen-inspired” two-bedroom unit in the U Street Corridor and a four-bedroom contemporary Craftsman in Takoma Park.

Two-Bedroom Loft-like Condo in the Penn Quarter (No Commute Necessary)

916 G Street NW, #801 (see map here)

  • Price: $675,000
  • Bedrooms: Two
  • Bathrooms: Two
  • Square Footage: 1,244
  • Price per SF: $543

It has been a while since we have featured a home in the heart of downtown, so we were happy when we came across this two-bedroom condo in the Penn Quarter. Located on the 8th floor of the historic Mather Building, the 1,240 square-foot unit has polished concrete floors and exposed brick walls to complement an open loft-like floor plan for the kitchen, living and dining area. If you work in the Penn Quarter and are sick of your commute, this condo offers a level of convenience that is hard to beat. The open house is Sunday, October 18th from 1:30 to 4:30pm. Zen-Inspired Two-Bedroom Condo in the U Street Corridor

2029 13th Street NW, Unit B (see map here)

  • Price: $625,000
  • Bedrooms: Two
  • Bathrooms: Two
  • Year Built: 1906

Described in the listing description as a “Zen-inspired” condo, this two-bedroom duplex in the U Street Corridor has a very minimalist feel to it. Aside from high ceilings and hardwood floors throughout, the home has a great set of bay windows that provides good light to the living room, a large master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a small rooftop terrace. From the photos, it seems like any clutter that you bring may be spontaneously organized. A reserved parking space comes with the unit, but it is also just a block from the U Street/Cardozo Metro station. And it is just around the corner from Ben’s Chili Bowl. The open house is Sunday, October 18th from 1pm to 3pm. For the full listing, click here.

Four-Bedroom Contemporary Craftsman in Takoma Park

505 Belford Place, Takoma Park, MD (see map here)

  • Price: $539,000
  • Bedrooms: Four
  • Bathrooms: 2.5
  • Year Built: 1906

Takoma Park offers very good space for your money in the DC area, and this home is indicative of that reputation. The four-bedroom contemporary Craftsman in Takoma Park has a split living room when you walk through the front door that offers both a place to watch TV and an area to entertain guests. The kitchen is new and has a small breakfast sitting area that looks out onto a porch and a large deck and backyard. The open house is Sunday, October 18th from 1pm to 4pm. Too bad the PQ listing doesn’t exist in Redfin’s database anymore, looked really nice.

    Mark,

Looks like the link for that PQ listing was broken. Now it is fixed. Sorry for the confusion.
