A 15,000 square foot Wesley Heights estate is set to come on the market as the most expensive home listed for sale in the District.

Asking $18,750,000, the property at 4500 Garfield Street NW sits on just over an acre and spans more than 15,000 square feet across two and a half stories. Built in 1929 and renovated in 2015, the nine-bedroom, nine-full-and-two-half-bath residence is listed by Nancy Taylor Bubes and Ben Roth of Washington Fine Properties.

The home backs up to mature landscaping and includes a swimming pool, pool house, sweeping lawns, and multiple terraces — amenities more evocative of an out-of-town country estate than a typical rowhouse-dominated pocket of the District.

The lofty listing price puts it in rarified company, but the home is still a distant third on the region's current price leaderboard. Topping the list is former Commanders owner Dan Snyder's River View Estate listed for $49.9 million. In second sits a riverfront McLean compound at 1100 Crest Lane, a 3.64-acre "Gold Coast" assemblage overlooking the Potomac that's been asking $25 million since the start of the year.
