UrbanTurf Reader Asks: Are the Reports About DC's Drop in Crime Accurate?
On the heels of the Washington Post article announcing that violent crime rates in many major U.S. cities (including DC) are at their lowest point in years, an UrbanTurf reader who is moving to the area soon asks if it really feels that way to residents in the District.
I will be moving to the DC area at the end of the summer to start a new job, and was pleasantly surprised to read that the violent crime level in the District is at its lowest point in four decades. Does it really feel that way to current residents? I had made up my mind to live outside the District because of the recent rash of shootings (Holocaust Museum, Capitol) and other violence that I heard about on the news. Forgive my naivete, but I would love to hear how current residents feel about the safety level in the city.
