2017 Q Street NW
For many years, 2017 Q Street NW served as the Tartt Gallery, a Dupont Circle art gallery around the corner from The Phillips Collection. Over a decade ago, The Washington Post wrote that the only regular hours that owner Jo Tartt Jr. kept were “from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. one evening a month.” The rest of the time, he was there, he just didn’t advertise it.

Living Room
Well, advertising or not, Jo Tartt, Jr. is no longer there, but art still adorns the walls of the property. When the present owners bought the property in 2002, it was in disrepair. The couple and architect Bruce Preston spent a year renovating the home, with the goal of creating an industrial feel using natural materials and an open workspace for themselves and large art works.

Master Bedroom
The floors and design elements throughout the home are made of natural stone, maple wood, glass, metal and steel. While the ceiling heights on each level reach 11 feet, the owners added height on the third floor to create an enormous master suite. (They also added a terrace.) The home also has two-car parking and a one-bedroom lower-level rental unit with a certificate of occupancy.
