The Price Of A House In The DC Region Has Never Been Higher

As home prices hit a record in the region last month, one property type took the lead on appreciation.
After eclipsing $845,000 for the first time in May 2024, the median price for a detached house in the area shot up to a new record of $873,000 in April.
Despite the increase in price, detached homes are still selling, on median, in less than a week in the region, and there remains just about a two-month supply on the market.
The value of a detached home rose about 4% since last spring, but the more notable increase has been since the beginning of the pandemic. Since February 2020, the median price is up $330,000 or nearly 63%.
