The Most Expensive Home to Hit the Market in Petworth

3729 9th Street NW
Petworth has been making real estate headlines recently as one of the most profitable places in the country to buy, renovate and sell homes. A recently-listed home could lend some credence to this news.
A five-bedroom, 5.5-bath home just north of the Petworth Metro station has been listed for $1.095 million, making it the most expensive home to ever be listed in the neighborhood.
Technically, the home at 3729 9th Street NW (map) is in the subdivision of Columbia Heights. But a look at the map reveals that by any current definition, it is located firmly in Petworth.
Purchased a year ago for $545,000, the home has been renovated and expanded over the past year into a 3,100 square-foot home with three bedrooms in the main house and a lower level, two-bedroom, two-bath unit.
