In general, the more expensive housing is in a metro area, the more one saves by having a roommate. In pricier markets like New York, renters can save approximately $1,300 a month with a roommate.
The median one-bedroom and two-bedroom rents for this study were calculated based on RentHop listings created between August 2022 and January 2023. Only unfurnished units were included in the analysis.
