Food blog The Feast reported recently that Jose Andres’ minibar will not be expanding its DC location, and rather Andres’ Think Food Group will focus on their new Las Vegas restaurants and international opportunities.
The Feast reports that minibar will close this Friday and reopen around January 11th, but the planned “facelift and more bar, less mini” has been put on hold in favor of focusing on current expansion in Las Vegas and future expansion in Paris, Miami and Mexico City.
UrbanTurf called minibar and was told that reservations are booked through this Friday when the restaurant will close and the chefs will head out to Las Vegas to help with the opening of Think Food Group’s new restaurants China Poblano and Jaleo. If you want to book a reservation for minbar when it reopens, call back around December 11th.
Update: UrbanTurf received the following note from Think Food Group’s Rob Wilder after we published this post:
“…our chef teams are going out to Las Vegas to help with the opening of our dramatic new restaurants at The Cosmopolitan. We are also using this time for Jose and team to research new menu items and further develop our plans for the future expansion of minibar. However, we would like to emphasize that minibar’s expansion is currently in development and is most definitely not being held off in favor of other projects in other cities. In December, TFG hopes to close a deal to acquire 100% of the Cafe Atlantico real estate. Next step is intensive focus on refining design. The minibar/ThinkFoodTank project continues to be a top priority for Jose Andres ThinkFoodGroup and will be the culinary heart and flagship for our company!”
