Raze Application Could Pave Way For 40-Unit Affordable Project East of the River

DC's House of Ruth looks to be moving forward with a new all-affordable development east of the Anacostia River.
The nonprofit that provides support for women and families facing trauma, abuse and homelessness has filed a raze application for a pair of buildings at 1815 and 1819 Minnesota Avenue SE (map) in DC's Fairlawn neighborhood. Once those buildings are gone, a 40-unit residential project will be constructed.

The new building will exclusively house women and families directly impacted by domestic violence. House of Ruth anticipates residents will have incomes between 0% and 30% of the are median family income. The development will also include green space, a courtyard, and a play area for children.
