Is The White House for Sale Again?

UrbanTurf came across a famous DC address this morning that is apparently up for sale: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. And this is not the first time that UrbanTurf has seen The White House on the market.
Back in June 2010, UrbanTurf staff were engaging in that coolest of weekend activities (combing real estate websites for sweet listings) when we first came across the executive residence listed for sale.
We sent an email to the powers-that-be at Redfin who quickly removed the property from the site before any offers could be made (but not before websites like Gawker picked up the news).
Redfin took to its blog to explain the error. They wrote that “in addition to showing homes for sale from MRIS, the DC area’s multiple listing service, [the site] will also get homes for sale from [sites like] Zillow, ForSaleByOwner.com and Oodle.” One of the sites that Oodle gets its listings from, Owners.com, had listed the White House as an example property and the software for Redfin did not discriminate. It seems the same thing has happened again.
This time around, the listing price for Obama’s abode is just $70,000. In the past couple years, the 132-room landmark has been valued for somewhere in the realm of $300 million. How’s that for a Deal of the Week?
