DC-based architect Arthur Keyes was best known for the many projects that his firm helped design around the region, including the Torpedo Factory Arts Center in Alexandria and the west wing of the National Gallery of Art. However, the mid-modern home that Keyes built and designed near Observatory Circle for his family is equally as impressive as many of the aforementioned works.

The architect, who passed away last year at the age of 95, purchased a plot of land along 31st Street NW after World War II on which he went about building a home for his family. The finished product had wide open rooms and a contemporary feel that was ahead of its time. UrbanTurf’s favorite features are the wide windows that run along the back of the house, the den-like room with built-ins, the floating staircase and the indoor lap pool adjacent to the long side porch.

If the design elements don’t wow you, perhaps its recent celebrity guests will. The home hosted a V Magazine party during inauguration attended by Paula Abdul and John Legend.
