All Things Italian: Historic Georgetown Home Gets a Sophisticated Renovation

A 19th century colonial home in the heart of Georgetown is on the market for the fourth time in its 150-year existence. But this time, the listing is telling a completely new story: a home that has been transformed to marry its colonial past with the refined sophistication of Italian craftsmanship
The new three-bedroom and three-and-a-half bathroom residence, now lovingly called Casa Ulivo, is listed for $2,350,000 with The Mike Aubrey Group.
Casa Ulivo (map), meaning olive tree house, is the product of a collaboration between luxury developer Brujus Construction and Italian architect Enza Martellotta. Together, they created a home where every line and finish speaks of Puglia, Italy — the exclusive source of all interior materials — infusing each living space with warmth, elegance, and soul.
Behind the colonial exterior, one-of-a-kind, custom details can be found throughout Casa Ulivo. European oak flooring, laid in a distinctive Milano Trapezio pattern, anchors the interior spaces, while richly stained wood slats — cut from the heart of a Puglian tree — line the stairs. Bespoke millwork and functional, illuminated built-ins give the spaces intrinsic character. Wainscoting and picture frame moldings add to the depth of each room. Beautifully detailed wallpaper animates the living room and lower level, and the primary suite bathroom makes a bold final statement, wrapped floor to ceiling in dramatic large-format Florim tile.
The home also features a quintessential Georgetown patio featuring the home's original 1887 brickwork, each brick individually cleaned, re-laid, and repointed. A new drainage system was also installed in the process.
Located in the heart of Georgetown, just steps from M Street, Rose Park and The Four Seasons (where monthly parking is available), the home is walkable to dozens of shops, restaurants and cafes.
Casa Ulivo is the first of three residences by Brujus Construction and architect Enza Martellotta to deliver in Washington, DC. To learn more about this property, or those to come, contact Mike Aubrey of The Mike Aubrey Group at 301-873-9807 or mike@mikeaubrey.com.
