DC's Mazza Gallerie Mall To Be Redeveloped Into a Residential and Retail Development

The fate of one of DC's last malls has been determined.
Developer Tishman Speyer announced Tuesday the acquisition of DC's Mazza Gallerie mall on Wisconsin Avenue along the DC-Maryland border (map) where it plans to build rental housing while retaining existing retail space and the underground parking garage. Willard Retail is advising on the retail component of the redevelopment.

"This project, on a gateway site into the nation’s capital represents an opportunity to help meet the strong local need for high quality housing, while retaining a retail element that embraces the neighborhood," Tishman Speyer Regional Director Jeff Chod said in a statement.
About a month ago, a panel released recommendations for how Friendship Heights, the neighborhood where the mall is located, could be redeveloped.
Additional details about the redevelopment are forthcoming. UrbanTurf will update this article as we receive more information.
