A new development is on the boards for the Shops at Sumner Place in Bethesda.
W.C. & A.N. Miller Development Company is pitching a 132-unit apartment project with live/work units and open amenity space for a vacant bank building and parking lots at the shopping center off Sangamore Road (map). The bank building, on the northeast corner of the property, will be demolished to make way for the new development, designed by Architects Collaborative Incorporated.

The allowable height for the project under current zoning is 45 feet, but the development team will be providing 20 moderately-priced dwellings units, which permits a height of up to 57 feet.
This may just be the initial phase of redevelopment planned at the shopping center.
"While the Applicant intends to submit development applications that are limited to the proposed mix of multi-family and live/work units as Phase I of the redevelopment, it has evaluated the potential for future phases of development at the property, to include several commercial pad sites," the site plan application states.
The project is set to go before the Montgomery County Development Review Committee later this month.
