Valor Development and Potomac Construction Group will be converting the former Italian embassy to residential units with new construction additions. A previous 79-unit condo development attempt in 2006 was halted just as sales were beginning when the historic preservation review board deemed the building historic and asked for building permits to be revoked. The project has since been redesigned so as not to interfere with the historic aspect of the embassy structure. The number of units will range between 110 and 135, and ground could be broken in 2012.
