In this week’s installment of What X Buys You, we look in the $600K range and find a renovated 2,000 square-foot, three-bedroom condo in Shaw. The three-level home has been completely renovated, and you would be hard pressed to find a similar property for $300 per square foot within the DC borders. The unit now has very spacious bedrooms with ten-foot ceilings, two of which have balconies off of them. The main level has a large living and dining area and a brand-new kitchen. The unit has two gated parking spots in back. More details and photos below.

$600K for 3 bedrooms in Shaw?  You could have NE Capitol Hill for that kind of money.

I would rather live in a nice place in Shaw than in a run-down place in Cap Hill.

George, are you high or being reverse sarcastic?  600K buys a lot of nice places in Cap Hill nowadays and you would have 1/4 the crime as Shaw.  Not everything is about square footage.

  1. George said at 10:50 am on Friday October 30, 2009:

Yes, but square footage is a major factor and you cannot get near that space in Cap Hill for the money. Crime in Shaw has decreased notably in recent years. Come by for a visit sometime.

Actually 600K will not get you a ton on the Hill. It might get you a fair amount on the streets surrounding the hill, but…

  1. Lauren said at 1:12 pm on Friday October 30, 2009:

I don’t know much about the Hill, but $600k can buy a really nice house or condo in Columbia Heights, which may have as much or more crime than Shaw but also has a lot more restaurants and shopping.
