The exterior of this Brookland Victorian reminds UrbanTurf of a gingerbread house, and while the interior will probably need some updating at some point down the road, the exterior is just one of its cool features. The three-bedroom home has a wrap-around front porch, a good-sized yard, a large living and dining area and both a basement and attic that have a lot of potential. The house is also just about four blocks south of the Brookland Metro stop on the Red Line.

Four-Bedroom Cape Cod in the Land of George Washington


The history of the Barcroft section of Arlington where this home is located can be traced back to when George Washington surveyed the land and built a grist mill in the area. This four-bedroom Cape Cod does not go back quite that far (built in 1949), but it does have a number of noteworthy features. Located on a dead-end street, it has a main level with bay windows and sky lights, hardwood floors, and a large gourmet kitchen. The piece de resistance, however, might be the rear deck and the backyard that has a pond and waterfall.

    The $305/mo condo fee in the first place equates to additional $60k over 30yrs @ 4.5%.

    I don’t understand this condo fee myopia. Do people think it is some sort of special tax and not payment toward insurance, utilities, maintenance, reserves, etc. that in turn lowers other monthly expenses and hedges against major payouts down the road? Some condos are poorly managed, but it’s not like the fees are thrown in a ditch somewhere.
