UrbanTurf Reader Makes Her Decision: A Two-Bedroom Condo in Bloomingdale
About two and a half weeks ago, we asked our audience to weigh in on a fellow reader’s home buying decision. She was looking for a condo and had narrowed her search down to three listings: a two-bedroom condo in Petworth, a two-bedroom condo on Independence Avenue in Hill East and a two-bedroom condo on 16th Street in Hill East. A week later, we got an email saying that she found a different two-bedroom condo in Bloomingdale and was waiting to hear if she got FHA approval on it. Well, she just let us know that she now has the property under contract. It is a two-bedroom, two-bath condo at 150 Rhode Island Avenue NW. Details below:

- Price: $335,000

Hmm, I think she chose the worst of the four- at least in terms of noise. It’s the BEST one for walking to U Street, Logan, and Dupont however. If she’s young with an active social life, it’s probably a wise choice for her. Cap Hill is very quiet by comparison. I used to live close to her new place, and I was woken up nearly every night by sirens tearing up Rhode Island Avenue. I’d also have picked a house, not a condo, since those fees add up. And what about her desire for a yard?
I think she chose the best one for location and value. The Hill East and Petworth are so far removed from much of downtown. Living right across 2nd St. NW from Timor Bodega is a very wise move. She’ll have a very easy walk to Shaw Howard Metro station. Plus, Bloomingdale is renowned as one of the friendliest neighborhoods in the city.
Congrats on a great choice! I recently purchased a house a few blocks from there in Ledroit Park after looking in similar areas of the city. LOVE the neighborhood and definitely feel like it was the right choice - great neighbors, close to amenities, beautiful tree lined streets and historic houses.
Great choice! I also live in the area and you are going to love it.
Thanks everyone for the support! It just felt right to me. It was one of those things where when I first walked in, I fell in love and saw myself living there immediately. The ‘hood seemed really great too. I’m excited!
Welcome to our neighborhood,,well, sort of. I am in Truston Circle, right down the street. There are some great fun people in Shaw/Bloomingdale/Truxton Circle. We welcome great new people like you and continue making the neighborhood better and better
