This Week’s Find: Living in a Former Grocery Warehouse

Sexton Foods in 1924

If you saw the massive loft thumbnail image on this article and thought to yourself “Where on Earth in DC is this place?” you’ll be a little saddened by this post. For this installment of This Week’s Find, we are featuring a property written about on our sister site in the Windy City. Enjoy!

This Week’s Find is a 1,650 square-foot two-bedroom in a former Sexton Foods warehouse, a national wholesale grocer based in Chicago that serviced restaurants and hotels across the U.S.

Originally constructed in 1916, the warehouse was converted to a 252-unit condo project in 2000. The 11-story brick tower that comprises the eastern portion of the building is concrete lofts; the units on the western half are brick and timber. Located around the corner from the East Bank Club (where celebs like Oprah and President Obama have been spotted getting their work-out on), Sexton Lofts is close to the Loop and a slew of high-end restaurants and art galleries.

The fifth floor unit that we are featuring today still has the exposed brick and vaulted timber ceilings from the property’s former life. The pad was a former model unit, probably chosen because of its huge living room that has enough room for a couch and a pool table with space to spare. The kitchen has been updated and the master bedroom has a walk-in closet; unfortunately, deeded parking is an additional $35,000.
