The Best Open Houses in the DC Area

by Mark Wellborn

With Labor Day coming up, the pickings for open houses this weekend are pretty slim. However, we recommend checking out a “green” two-bedroom condo in Columbia Heights and an enormous seven-bedroom Victorian in Takoma DC.

Green Two-Bedroom Condo in Columbia Heights

image

1362 Otis Place NW, #1 (see map here)

  • Price: $519,000
  • Bedrooms: Two
  • Bathrooms: 1.5
  • Square Footage: 1,600
  • Price per SF: $324
  • Year Built: 1910

This 1,600 square-foot two-bedroom condo in Columbia Heights has been completely renovated to adhere to green and LEED standards. The kitchen is made of mostly bamboo and recycled glass and all the over-sized windows are energy efficient. The living area and kitchen take up the majority of the main level and both bedrooms are on the lower level. Just a few blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro on the Green Line, this home also has a parking space in back. The open house is Sunday, September 6th from 1 to 3:30pm. Huge Seven-Bedroom Victorian in Takoma DC

image

708 Highland Avenue NW (see map here)

  • Price: $799,900
  • Bedrooms: Seven
  • Bathrooms: 3.5
  • Year Built: 1895

Not many buyers are in the market for a seven-bedroom home, but if you are, this is a fairly good deal. This seven-bedroom “grande dame” in Takoma DC has a number of features of an old country house: wrap-around porch, huge yard, and gleaming hardwood floors. While the bathrooms were recently redone, the kitchen needs some work as do a few of the rooms. However, if you are in the market for a home this big, $799,000 is a good price if all you need are a few upgrades. The open house is Sunday, September 6th from 1 to 4pm. There is a fair amount of green renovation going on in Columbia Heights right now. Does anyone know why there is such a high concentration?

Thanks for pointing that out, Tom. Fixed!
