by Mark Wellborn

The Real Estate Disposition Corporation (REDC) is having a three-day auction for 885 properties spread across DC, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware from March 12th to March 15th. The event actually comprises five individual auctions, two of which are in DC and will presumably feature the properties that are in the DC metro area. The other three auctions are in Portsmouth, Richmond, and Baltimore.

The first DC auction is at the Mellon Auditorium next Saturday. Here are the details from the website:

  • 315+ Foreclosed homes must be sold!
  • When: Saturday March 14, 2009
  • Where: Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium 1301 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20407
  • Time: Registration starts promptly at 8am Auction starts promptly at 9:30am
  • Open House Dates: All homes open for inspection from 11am to 4pm on 3/7/09 & 3/8/09.

The second DC auction is that Sunday at the Convention Center:

  • 340+ Foreclosed homes must be sold!
  • When: Sunday March 15, 2009
  • Where: Walter E. Washington Convention Center- Exhibit Hall A 801 Mount Vernon Pl NW, Washington, DC 20001
  • Time: Registration starts promptly at 8am. Auction starts promptly at 9:30am
  • Open House Dates: All homes open for inspection from 11am to 4pm on 3/7/09 & 3/8/09.

The auction page is here. You should use the fields in the right-hand column to narrow down the list of displayed properties based on location, number of bedrooms, square footage, etc.

REDC representatives told UrbanTurf that 32 properties within DC proper will be auctioned off on Sunday, March 15th at the Washington Convention Center. Most of the properties are located on the outskirts of Capitol Hill and in Trinidad and Anacostia, and look to be in need of a lot of work.

As for other cities and counties in the area, the website search indicates that there are 17 properties in Alexandria, 6 in Arlington, 3 in Falls Church, 16 in Prince George’s, 40 in Montgomery County, 34 in Fairfax County, 45 in Prince William County, and 11 in Loudoun.

Before bidding on any of these properties, be sure to read the fine print. This post highlights some of the reasons why bidders should be wary. The comments to that post are helpful, too.

(Hat tip to Bubble Meter for the link to the auction.)
